In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Grand Rapids; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in Michigan are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.
Hours are published for 7 days a week. The most common schedule is 11 amโ9 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach MISSION BBQ at (616) 828-4833; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, mission-bbq.com.
On Google it holds a rating of 4.6 out of 5 from 1,743 reviews, which is a strong result for a chinese bbq in Grand Rapids and suggests consistent service.
Grand Rapids is in Michigan, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Grand Rapids follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

Mission BBQ was 'good'. Not great. Not terrible. Just good. My primary measurement of quality BBQ is the brisket - which was fairly dry (even though I ordered the 'moist' option). It definitely had its juicy portions, but those were the exception rather than the rule. The flavor was very good. You could tell it was well smoked and the selection of sauces was great. There wasn't a single sauce I didn't enjoy. My wife really enjoyed the ribs and my daughter thought the Smoked Cheesburger and Mac n' Cheese were fantastic. The bottom line: for the price ($15), it's worth it. In GR, there might not be anything better (since Slows closed shop). But if you're hunting for life-changing brisket, book a flight to San Antonio and find 2M Smokehouse. You will never be the same.

Stopped in at MISSION BBQ and enjoyed a fantastic meal. The barbecue steak was tender and packed with smoky flavor, the hot dog on a fresh bun was delicious, and the fries were hot and crispy. The food was served quickly, and the quality made the whole experience memorable. Definitely a place Iโll return to for more barbecue.

Today I went to Mission BBQ on the East beltline and I was thoroughly impressed by their service, especially if youโre coming from my man named Brenner went above and beyond. I only get me some Alabama White sauce, my chicken, my cornbread, and give me the recommendation on their great lemonade let me tell you itโs my been the best lemonade but also the best service Iโve ever had. Thank you, Brenner. if I was the upper management at this mission barbecue, I would give Branner a raise and I know managementโs gonna be looking at this review. If you donโt give renter a raise, Iโll be thoroughly disappointed.

Major disappointment: we arrived at 8 pm. they close at 9 pm. They had no French fries....they had just run out. Didn't offer to make more. Mission BBQ has the BEST fries. Each one of us (there were 6 of us) was disappointed. It seems with an hour more til closing, they would have made more. That's why only 3 stars on service. More people came in after we did. The bbq we all got (we all got something different) was DELICIOUS. The coke slaw was perfect. The baked beans had a funny taste -- we didn't eat them. We do really like Mission BBQ and their mission to honor Veterans. So, we will be back -- buy hope they don't stop making French fries an hour before closing.
